Create a Screencast

Screencasting

Screencasting is the action of recording the activity on a computer screen. Screenr, Screencast-O-Matic, Jing, and CamStudio are popular free tools that offers basic screen capture and casting functionality. Jing and CamStudio are software downloads, while Screenr and Screencast-O-Matic are web-based and do not require a download.

What do I need to do?

Create a screencast of a short, simple activity. Need ideas? Here are some things you could create screencasts of:

  1. Placing a hold in Polaris
  2. Searching in Polaris
  3. Creating a library card in Polaris
  4. Finding something in Staffweb
  5. Blog post on staff web
  6. Tweet on staff
  7. Searching the PAC
  8. Do something in Basecamp
  9. remove line spacing in Word
  10. merge & separate pdf documents

But don't limit yourselves to those - create one for anything you think would be useful. If other staff can benefit from it, bonus! We might just put it on staffweb…

How do I receive credit?

  1. Download and install, or sign up for an account with, one of the services above (if doing this on a work computer, you may need to contact DNS to acquire appropriate permissions)
  2. Using the service, record something you're doing on your computer
  3. Send the file or a link to the file to moc.liamg|gninraellpd#moc.liamg|gninraellpd with your name and "Screencast" in the Subject line
